Robert Palmer Dead at 54
Rocker Robert Palmer died early this morning of a heart attack. He was a sexy, sexy man.

Palmer in 1997, clearly reeling from the ravages of addiction.
It is unknown whether Palmer’s death comes as a result of his lifelong addiction to love, which he couragously discussed numerous times (in one famous interview, Palmer said of love, “Immune to the stuff? Oh, yeah. Closer to the truth to say I can’t get enough. I might as well face it, I’m addicted to love.”) Early toxicology reports have been vague on whether Palmer had any traces of love in his system at the time of death.

Robert Palmer was the coolest guy in the world in 1987, at least as far as I was concerned. I mean, I didn’t get as excited about those music videos as everyone else seemed to–I thought the Nagel-ish chicks generally looked like overly made-up mannequins–but the guy dressed like a pimp, released “Simply Irresistable” to large acclaim (won a Grammy if I recall correctly), and seemed to be on top of the world.
Music-wise, I actually like a lot of his stuff, although some of it was pretty lame and/or intensely strange and he hadn’t done anything worth listening to over the last decade. I used to play Addictions: Volume 1 a lot before it got ripped off, and now I see there’s a Volume 2 I didn’t even know existed. I’ve got to go purchase those.
Some people I know thought Palmer was nothing more than a lounge singer writ large, but they’re just playa haters. Im’a toss back a cold one this weekend for Palmer. The man had class.
